A targeted procedure that reveals more of the natural tooth for a crown placement or a more balanced smile.
(5-star rating from our smiling customers.)

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that removes excess gum tissue and sometimes bone to expose more of the natural tooth structure. It is performed for two distinct reasons: to prepare a tooth for a crown or restoration, or to correct a gummy smile.
When a tooth is broken, decayed, or has an old crown that has failed close to the gumline, there may not be enough tooth structure above the gums for a new restoration to grip securely. Crown lengthening solves this by uncovering the additional tooth structure needed.

Dr. Rani reviews X-rays and performs a clinical exam to determine how much tissue and bone needs to be removed and maps out the new gumline position. For cosmetic cases, the target gumline is agreed upon before surgery begins.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Small incisions are made to access the gum tissue and underlying bone. Excess tissue and bone are carefully removed to expose the required amount of tooth structure.

The gum tissue is sutured into its new position around the tooth. The area is dressed and protected. The procedure typically takes one to two hours depending on how many teeth are involved.

Initial healing takes two to three weeks. For restorative cases, the final crown or restoration is placed after the gumline has fully stabilized, typically 6 to 8 weeks after surgery for functional cases and 3 to 6 months for cosmetic cases.

Crown lengthening can make a severely damaged tooth restorable, allowing a new crown to be placed where extraction might otherwise have been the only option.

For patients whose gums cover too much of their teeth, cosmetic crown lengthening reveals more tooth structure for a more balanced and proportionate smile.

A crown placed on properly exposed tooth structure fits more accurately, sits at the correct gum level, and is less likely to cause gum irritation over time.

Once the tissue heals, the new gumline position is permanent. The exposed tooth structure does not return to its previous coverage.

All-on-6 replaces an entire arch of missing teeth with one fixed, comprehensive solution — upper, lower, or both.

Six implants distribute bite force more evenly across the jaw than fewer-implant solutions — providing a more natural feel and greater long-term stability.

Your new arch is permanently fixed — no removal at night, no adhesives, no slipping, no dietary restrictions.

With proper care and regular checkups, dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution. Results vary by patient, and our team will give you an honest assessment of what to expect during your consultation.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients feel pressure but no significant pain during surgery. Mild soreness for a few days after is normal and managed easily with over-the-counter pain medication.
Initial healing takes 2 to 3 weeks. For functional cases, the final crown is placed 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. For cosmetic cases requiring precise gumline stability, we wait 3 to 6 months before placing veneers or other restorations.
In many cases yes. If a tooth has broken below the gumline or has extensive decay near the root, crown lengthening exposes enough tooth structure to support a new crown and save the natural tooth.
Not typically. Crown lengthening is more commonly needed for gummy smiles or restorative work. For veneer cases, gum contouring is often a less invasive option. Dr. Rani will advise the right approach at your consultation.

Crown lengthening is often a prerequisite for crown placement on a severely damaged tooth. Both are available in-house and planned together by our clinical team.

For purely cosmetic gumline reshaping without the need for bone removal, gum contouring under our cosmetic dentistry services may be a simpler and less invasive option.

For patients considering cosmetic crown lengthening before veneers, our cosmetic specialist and periodontist plan the sequence together to ensure the final result is proportionate and cohesive.
